The Yakut City Court sentenced Viktor Zabolotsky, a participant in the war in Ukraine, to seven and a half years in a maximum security colony for murder. The verdict was handed down on November 24, but its publication was only now noticed by the Torboznoye Radio telegram channel.
On June 24, 2023, Zabolotsky was in the area of Uch Khatyn, where Ysyakh, the court papers say. He stayed overnight to guard the site. Zabolotsky said that he drank byrpakh all day, got drunk and fell asleep. Around seven in the morning he was awakened by two strangers. Seeing Zabolotsky wearing a military uniform, they said that “combat veterans killed children and are occupiers.”
Because of this, a fight broke out between the men, but at first they managed to separate them. Zabolotsky began to get ready to leave, and put on a belt bag with a knife for cutting wood, which was given to him by the head of Yakutia, Aisen Nikolaev, for his participation in the war. On its handle there is an inscription: “Take care of our Russia. A. Nikolaev.»
Five minutes later, one of the men returned, apologized to Zabolotsky and asked to give him the byrpakh. To this, the serviceman “remembered the insults” and they began to swear and fight again.
According to the verdict, Zabolotsky stabbed his opponent twice in the left hand, once in the head and chest, and four times in the stomach. The man died from his injuries in intensive care.
The court found the war participant guilty of murder (Part 1 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code). In addition to imprisonment, Zabolotsky was also ordered to pay 1 million rubles in compensation for moral damage.
