
MOSCOW, January 1 The Australian tennis team beat the US team in the group stage match of the home United Cup, the prize fund of which is $10 million.
The confrontation in Group C ended with a score of 2-1. Australian Alex de Minaur beat Taylor Fritz (6:4, 6:2), and American Jessica Pegula defeated Ajla Tomljanovic (7:6 (8:6), 6:3). In the doubles match, Pegula and Rajeev Ram lost to Storm Hunter and Matthew Ebden (3:6, 1:6).
The Australians took first place in the group and reached the quarter finals of the tournament. The Americans are in second place. Team USA can qualify for the competition's playoffs if they are one of the top two second-place teams.
United Cup runs from December 29 to January 7. The winner of the first tournament in 2023 was the US team. The Russian team is not invited to participate in the tournament.
