BELGOROD, January 2. The air defense system shot down nine targets on approach to Belgorod, preliminary, there were no casualties, Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov reported on the Telegram channel.
“Our air defense system worked again — nine air targets were shot down on approach to the city. Operational services are clarifying information about the consequences on the ground. According to preliminary data, there were no casualties,” he wrote.
According to the head of the region, in Belgorod, three households, a gas pipe and one passenger car were damaged.
In addition, in the Belgorod region, the roofs of three households were damaged. The details are being clarified, the governor added.
Earlier, he warned about the missile danger in the city and urged residents not to go near the windows.
The correspondent also reported about the sounds of explosions and an air raid siren.
According to the Ministry of Defense, on January 2, the Ukrainian military fired 17 Alder missiles of its own design at Belgorod and the region, all of them were shot down by Russian air defense systems. As Gladkov clarified, after an attack by the enemy army, one person was killed and 11 more were injured.
Massive shelling of Belgorod
On the afternoon of December 30, the Ukrainian Armed Forces attacked Belgorod. According to the Ministry of Defense, they used Alder missiles with a cassette part and the Czech Vampire MLRS. Air defense systems intercepted most of the shells, but several ammunition and cluster parts hit the city.
As the department emphasized, enemy troops fired in an attempt to divert attention from defeats at the front and provoke the Russian army into similar actions.
According to the latest data, 25 people became victims of the attack, including five children, and more than a hundred people were injured. The Investigative Committee opened a criminal case under the articles “Attempted murder”, “Murder”, “Intentional destruction or damage to property”.
President Vladimir Putin called the incident a terrorist attack, noting that it was a targeted attack on the civilian population, which will not remain unpunished.
