MOSCOW , January 2Thailand is ready for negotiations on a free trade zone with the EAEU, this will help develop trade and economic ties with Russia, Ambassador in Moscow Sasivat Wongsinsawat said in an interview.
According to the diplomat, the volume of trade with Russia for the nine months of 2023 was not impressive — only $1.1 billion. But this, he noted, does not mean that there are no opportunities for the development of economic ties — solutions must be sought here.
“
"One of the ways to promote trade is an agreement on a free trade zone with the EAEU. We have been discussing for several years with the Eurasian Economic Commission the possibility of launching negotiations on an agreement. I can only confirm that Thailand is more than ready to begin negotiations with the EAEU as soon as the union is ready for this,” said Wongsinsawat.
He added that there are no dates for the start of negotiations yet.
“It takes two to tango — it all depends on the EEC,” the ambassador explained.
In his opinion Wongsinsawata, the free trade agreement will allow Thai citizens to receive products at a lower cost.
«In addition, they will have more choice. Even more important, this will imply not only exports from Thailand to the EAEU countries, but also imports to Thailand,» the agency's interlocutor noted.
He believes that there are many potential areas where Moscow and Bangkok could work together. In particular, this is energy: Thailand is interested in Russian liquefied natural gas and coal.
