During the war in Ukraine, the former head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Yekaterinburg died, sentenced to real time in a case of bribery and illegal possession of weapons

Former head of the Yekaterinburg Ministry of Internal Affairs Igor Trifonov, convicted in a criminal case, died in the war in Ukraine. It's my city and Kommersant write about this with reference to lawyer Olga Kezik.

According to the lawyer, Trifonov had been seeking a military service contract for a long time, and at the end of 2023 he left colonies to the front. The security officer's wife learned of his death yesterday. According to Kezik, she has no official documents about Trifonov’s pardon, his release from the colony and his sending to the front.

“A lot of convicted people wanted to go [there] in order to quickly be released, to be freed from the burden of inevitability punishments. He wanted to prove to his homeland that he did not do this. He told me: “Olga Vyacheslavovna, you fight in the courts, and I’ll go there.” Together we will win.» Unfortunately, it turned out this way. More than one complaint was written that he was not accepted into the NWO zone. But later they heard and signed a contract with him,” Kezik told an It’s my city correspondent.

In August 2022, the Leninsky District Court of Yekaterinburg sentenced Trifonov to nine and a half years in a maximum security colony in a case of large-scale bribery and illegal possession of firearms. Later, the appeal court reduced the sentence by two months.

According to the investigation, the head of the city Department of Internal Affairs received a bribe in the amount of 7.5 million rubles for initiating a case against the debtor of the Ring of the Urals bank. Trifonov himself claimed that he was the victim of a slander on the part of his colleagues.

The relatives of the deceased consider him innocent. Despite the death of the security officer, they plan to prove his non-involvement in the crime. Trifonov’s case is due to be considered by the cassation court on January 10, writes Kommersant.

Trifonov headed the Ministry of Internal Affairs for Yekaterinburg from 2011 to 2017, and later headed the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for Karachay-Cherkessia. In 2020, a security officer was detained in a criminal case.
