MOSCOW, January 4 Almost everything, including thousands of virtual servers, was destroyed as a result of a cyber attack on the Ukrainian telecom operator Kyivstar, Reuters reports citing the head of the department cyber security of the SBU Ilya Vityuk.
“The attack destroyed “virtually everything,” including thousands of virtual servers and PCs,” the agency said in a statement, citing Vityuk, who gave him an interview.
Earlier, the head of the company, Alexander Komarov, stated that about 40% of the infrastructure of the Ukrainian telecom operator Kyivstar was destroyed as a result of a cyber attack. According to him, Kyivstar filed a lawsuit for interference in the operation of the network, which resulted in damage amounting to “billions of hryvnias.”
The failure of Kyivstar occurred on December 12 , subscribers complained about communication problems and lack of access to the Internet. The company reported that the cause of the technical failure in the network was a “powerful hacker attack”, as a result of which the operator’s IT infrastructure was partially destroyed.
