The head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Igor Klimenko, said that the police had opened about nine thousand criminal cases for evading mobilization (Article 336 of the Criminal Code). This is stated in the department’s telegram channel.
Article 336 is punishable by up to five years in prison. About 2,600 cases have already gone to trial. Klimenko added that first, representatives of the Territorial Recruitment Centers (TRC) draw up reports on draft dodgers, and if they continue to hide from the army, they transmit the information to the police.
At the end of December, the Ukrainian government proposed changing the rules of mobilization and tightening restrictions for draft dodgers. Thus, they may be prohibited from driving a car, managing their property, or taking out loans.
