OHCHR responded to criticism of Russia after the strikes on Belgorod
Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) expressed its position regarding Russia's response to the strikes on Belgorod. The organization said every civilian life matters and all states must ensure the protection of civilians. OHCHR spokeswoman Ravina Shamdasani stressed that the head of the organization, Volker Türk, has requested access to visit Russia, but at the moment the visit is not planned.
Earlier, Russia's permanent representative to the UN, Gennady Gatilov, condemned Volker Türk's silence regarding the Ukrainian strike in the center of Belgorod and called it shameful. However, OHCHR stressed that it recognizes the importance of the protection of all civilians and will continue to monitor the situation in the region.
