ASHGABAT, January 6 Chairman of the Khalk Maslakhaty (People's Council) of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, during a working visit to the UAE, invited the business of this country to participation in the development of Turkmen gas fields and the construction of export gas pipelines, the Russian-language government newspaper Neutral Turkmenistan reported on Saturday.
The former head of Turkmenistan stated this during negotiations in Dubai with the chairman of the board of directors of Dragon Oil, Syed Al Tayer. As Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said at the negotiations, the main tasks of the fuel and energy complex of Turkmenistan are to increase the volume of oil and natural gas production, as well as the export of Turkmen energy resources and their processed products.
«In this regard, partners and investors from the UAE are invited to participate in the implementation of new energy projects related to the construction of gas pipeline infrastructure intended for the supply of natural Turkmen gas to the countries of the region and other states,” the publication quotes the head of the People’s Council.
Following the working visit of the former head of Turkmenistan to the UAE, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the state concern Turkmengas and the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC). The document speaks of the parties’ intention to attract strategic partners for the third stage of development of the giant Galkynysh gas field in Turkmenistan and participation in the construction of gas pipeline infrastructure for gas export.
The Dragon Oil company, headquartered in Dubai, has been operating on the Turkmen shelf of the Caspian Sea since 2000 on the basis of a Production Sharing Agreement.
Galkynysh gas field is one of the largest in the world. British company Gafney, Cline & Associates estimates the reserves of this field at more than 27 trillion cubic meters of gas.
Halk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan is the highest representative body of people's power in the country.
