BAGHHDAD, January 6Iraq plans to reduce imports of petroleum products into the country to a complete stop in 2024, said Iraqi Oil Ministry spokesman Assem Jihad.
«In 2024, Iraq will rely more on local production, and after a number of refineries begin production, there will be a reduction in the level of imports of petroleum products until they stop completely,» the official said.
Iraq imports some petroleum products, including improved gasoline, to fill local market shortages.
Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani said on April 1 last year that his government attaches great importance to working to increase the production capacity of oil refineries to eliminate imports.
