MOSCOW, January 7. Spanish tennis player Rafael Nadal said that due to injury he will not take part in the upcoming Australian Open.
Previously, the former first racket of the world said that after the 1/4 final match of the tournament in Brisbane against Australian Jordan Thompson he felt muscle pain pain.
«»Hi everyone, during my last match in Brisbane I had a small problem with a muscle which, as you know, had me worried. After arriving in Melbourne I had the opportunity to have an MRI. I was diagnosed with a microtear muscle, but not in the same part where the injury was before, and this is good news. Now I am not ready to perform at the maximum level in five-set matches. I am flying back to Spain to see the doctor, undergo treatment and rest,» wrote Nadal on social media X.
«I have worked very hard throughout the year to come back, and as I have always said, my goal is to be at my best level in three months. Despite the sadness that I will not be able to play in front of an amazing crowd in Melbourne, it's not the worst news and we're all staying positive for the season. I really wanted to play here in Australia and I had the chance to play some matches which made me very happy and positive. Thank you all for your support and see you soon!» added the 37-year-old Spaniard.
The competition in Brisbane was the first for the 22-time Grand Slam champion since competing at the Australian Open in January 2023.
