According to the Armenia-European Union partnership agreement signed in 2017, Yerevan must abandon the name “cognac” for 14 years on the domestic market. And for 25 years — in foreign countries. For its part, the European Union has pledged to provide Armenia with a grant to promote Armenian cognac under a new name.
The French will advise Armenia on a new name for cognac. But it’s not just about the name, but also about the quality, noted Deputy Minister of Economy Arman Khojoyan. In order to draw up a detailed work plan for marketing and quality control, the ministry decided to seek advice from French specialists, Khojoyan added.
Meanwhile, most Armenian manufacturers like the name Armenian Brandy.
