UN, January 13 The UN Security Council did not give sanctions on the United States and its allies for attacks on Yemen, Russian permanent representative to the organization Vasily Nebenzya said at a Security Council meeting.
““There was no UN Security Council sanction under Chapter VII of the Charter for the use of force,” Nebenzya said.
Article 51 in Chapter 7 of the UN Charter states that the Charter “shall in no way affect the inherent right of individual or collective self-defense if an armed attack occurs on a Member of the Organization, until the Security Council has taken the measures necessary to maintaining international peace and security.»
The article also states that measures taken by UN members in the exercise of this right of self-defense must be immediately communicated to the Security Council «and shall in no way affect the powers and responsibilities of the Security Council, in accordance with this Charter, in to take at any time such action as he may deem necessary for the maintenance or restoration of international peace and security.»
