1167 Russians living in Latvia are under threat of deportation. Of these, 789 people – over 60 years old. The Russian Embassy in Latvia reported this on its Telegram channel.
So, according to diplomats, one of those who faces eviction is a 72-year-old resident of the city of Liepaja. Pensioner – visually impaired since childhood, needs care and support.
According to the embassy, the woman, with the help of her relatives, began collecting documents to renew her residence permit back in December 2022, but the process dragged on for bureaucratic reasons until November 2023 – Russians had to undergo a comprehensive medical examination in order to receive a medical exemption from the Latvian language exam. As a result, the woman was unable to obtain a certificate on time and had to undergo testing, which was beyond her health due to her health. As a result, her permanent residence permit was revoked.
