Pashinyan called for improving customs regulation in the EAEU

YEREVAN, January 16 Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, in an address to the heads of EAEU member states on the occasion of the transfer of chairmanship to Yerevan in 2024, said on the need to improve customs regulation in the integration association.
“I consider it fundamentally important to strengthen the level of trust. To achieve the desired results, it is necessary to improve customs regulation, taking into account law enforcement practice, minimize the use of customs and other types of government control measures in relation to goods transported by member states through the customs territory of the EAEU, the introduction and development of a unified customs transit system «, says the appeal, the text of which was published on the website of the Eurasian Economic Commission.

According to him, the absolute priority is the complete elimination of barriers to mutual trade. “We also need to pay attention to those problematic situations that do not qualify as an obstacle, but have a negative impact on the internal market. At the same time, certain provisions of the Treaty on the Eurasian Economic Union allow member states to introduce unilateral restrictive measures that lead to corrosion of the internal market of the EAEU and creating difficult-to-predict conditions for business representatives. I believe that Article 29 of the Treaty on the Eurasian Economic Union is not dogmatic and needs to be adapted to modern realities and conditions of economic activity,» Pashinyan said.

He added that the lack of a common border with other EAEU countries creates certain difficulties and economic costs for Armenia. In his opinion, on the one hand, this is a challenge for the republic, on the other, an opportunity for an alliance.

“If we manage to ensure transport, transit and administrative seamlessness with the help of modern technologies, we will have the opportunity to deepen relations with interested third countries, which is a basic necessity for the future development and strengthening of the EAEU. When we talk about the imperative of further economic interaction to ensure the well-being of society “, it is necessary to take into account the important role assigned to digitalization, which is becoming a key driver of economic development of the Eurasian Economic Union,” said the Armenian Prime Minister.
In his opinion, the issue of reformatting the integrated information system of the EAEU is becoming increasingly urgent. “Strategic documents have already outlined the necessary steps for the transition to platform solutions. In this context, it is important to clearly define the role of the supranational regulatory body. I see no obstacles in the Eurasian Economic Commission becoming the “gathering point” for a large-scale project,” Pashinyan said.
He added that Armenia also attaches great importance to the issue of increasing the share of national currencies in trade.
