A relatively small increase in the indicator was recorded against the backdrop of a 60 percent drop in the previous year.
Minister of Industry and trade of the Russian Federation Denis Manturov spoke about the performance of the Russian automobile industry. According to the department's estimates, over the past year the volume of production in Russia of cars of all segments increased by 16%. In total, more than 720 thousand cars rolled off the assembly lines of local factories. He also noted that over 1.3 million new cars (including commercial vehicles) were sold in the domestic market.
Let us recall that at the end of the previous year, a very noticeable decline in the volume of car production in the Russian Federation was recorded. Thus, in 2022, local enterprises produced a total of about 620 thousand cars of all segments, which is 60% less than a year earlier. For comparison, according to the results of the “pre-crisis” 2021, 1.5 million units rolled off the assembly lines of Russian car factories (of which 1.34 million were “passenger cars” alone).
The head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation noted that some of the cars in 2023 were sold using state programs: approximately 16 billion rubles were spent on preferential leasing and car lending mechanisms. They helped sell 62 thousand cars in the Russian Federation (4.8% of the total number of cars sold in the country). The government programs have been extended for the current year.
Denis Manturov added that now one of the main tasks is “scaling the production of auto components.” At the end of 2023, the Industrial Development Fund received an additional 55 billion rubles, which are intended, among other things, for the localization of components. Let us recall that last year the Itelma company reported on the start of production of anti-lock braking systems (ABS) and electronic stability control systems (ESC/ESP).
Previously, a fresh forecast for sales of new cars in the Russian Federation in the period from 2024 to 2026 was shared by the Ministry of Economic Development. The department expects that over the next three years the Russian passenger car market will experience smooth growth: it is expected that in 2024 dealers will sell 1.108 million units in the Russian Federation, in 2025 the figure will be 1.163 million units, and in 2026 it will reach the mark in 1.225 million cars.
The Ministry of Economic Development also suggests that the volume of cars imported into the Russian Federation will decrease annually in the next few years (it is assumed that that the reduction dynamics will be up to 20%). At the same time, the department believes that the export of passenger cars with Russian registration will grow: according to the forecast, up to 6.5 thousand units in 2024, will exceed 10 thousand units in 2025, and in 2026 will reach 12 ,1 thousand cars sent abroad.
As it became known last week, the Russian market of new passenger cars in 2023 increased by 69% to 1,058,708 units. (according to calculations by the Autostat agency). Let us remind you that the top ten most popular models in the Russian Federation included: Lada Granta, Haval Jolion, Lada Niva Travel, Lada Vesta, Chery Tiggo 7 Pro Max, Lada Niva Legend, Geely Coolray, Omoda C5, Chery Tiggo 4 Pro and Geely Monjaro.< /p>
