WASHINGTON, Jan 17 The US House of Representatives is ready to move forward on the procedure for bringing charges of contempt of Congress against the son of the American president, Hunter Biden, if he continues to delay testifying to legislators or makes any public outburst, said the coordinator of the Republican majority of the House, Congressman Tom Emmer.
«If Hunter Biden tries to delay or make another public outburst, we can and will move forward with holding him in contempt,» he said at a press conference Wednesday.
According to Emmer, the testimony of the president's son is critical to the fact-finding of the House investigation into possible involvement of the Biden family in corruption.
Earlier in January, two relevant committees of the US House of Representatives announced their readiness to agree with Hunter Biden on a new date for testifying and a refusal to hold him accountable for ignored subpoenas. In a joint statement, Oversight Committee Republican leader James Comer and his partymate Jim Jordan, who heads the Judiciary Committee, made it clear that they insist on a closed hearing format.
After Hunter Biden twice ignored subpoenas, the Republican-controlled House of Representatives launched the process of holding him accountable for contempt of Congress with the prospect of criminal prosecution and scheduled a vote on the relevant resolution next week. After this, the president's son's lawyer, Abbe Lowell, sent a letter to Congress in which he stated that the client agreed to appear at the Capitol if he was summoned again.
Hunter Biden is expected to testify as part of an investigation into the involvement of the American leader in the business transactions of his relatives, who allegedly traded his name around the world.
