
ST. PETERSBURG, January 18. A student was detained for destroying ATMs with an ax in the Primorsky district of St. Petersburg, the GUMVD for the city and Leningrad region reported on Thursday.
The night before, the police received a report that an unknown person with an ax was breaking ATMs at a bank branch at 14 on Dolgoozernaya Street. A little later, a signal came that near house 17, building 2 on Sitsevaya Street, someone was smashing car windows with an ax.
“A couple of minutes later, in hot pursuit, near the house 28 on Bogatyrsky Prospekt, the alleged attacker was detained by the police patrol service — 21- a fourth-year summer student at the university. He was taken to the police department for investigation,» the chief commander reports.
In total, four ATMs in the bank branch were hit with an ax, plus a Renault car, whose windshield and side windows were broken. The issue of initiating a criminal case is being decided.
The rowdy’s motives are still unclear.
