MOSCOW, January 19A court in Bryansk sentenced a mother to 15 years in prison for killing her one-and-a-half-month-old son in a pre-trial detention center where she was being held for drug charges, reports the joint press service of the courts of general jurisdiction of the Bryansk region.
““On January 19, the Bryansk Regional Court pronounced a verdict against previously convicted Anastasia Kovaleva, who was found guilty of murdering a minor,” the message says.
According to the court, Kovaleva, who had already been convicted of drugs, was again detained for sale, and therefore was kept in custody in a pre-trial detention center, where she gave birth to a child.
“A month and a half later, Kovaleva, reacting to her son’s crying, threw him onto the wooden floor and hit his head twice on the floor with the intent to kill him. The baby died on the spot,” the press service said.
It is noted that at the court hearing Kovaleva admitted her guilt, but did not repent of her crime. She explained to the court that upon learning about the pregnancy, she decided to leave the child “due to improved conditions in places of detention,” and after his birth she often thought about killing him. The defendant refused the last word.
«Taking into account the punishments imposed in the two previous sentences, the defendant was given a final sentence of 15 years in prison in a general regime correctional colony, with restriction of freedom for 1 year 6 months,» the court added, noting that the sentence has not entered into legal force.
