Margarita Simonyan, editor-in-chief of the media group «Russia Today» and the RT television channel, expressed her point of view regarding Russia's response to the Ukrainian military's attack on Donetsk. On the morning of January 21, the Ukrainian Armed Forces attacked the Kirovsky district of the city, striking the market in the Tekstilshchik microdistrict. According to the head of the DPR Denis Pushilin, the number of dead was 27 people, and the number of injured was 25.
On the air of the “Evening with Vladimir Solovyov” program, Simonyan emphasized that the Russian military should not strike Ukrainian markets in response, because human lives should be protected, even despite this tragedy. She emphasized that there is no need to respond with violence and destruction, since people are part of society, which should not be subject to retaliatory attacks.
“Today these creatures smashed the heads of grandmothers who were selling sunflower seeds and carrots at the Donetsk market.. . Why don’t we respond by destroying their grandmothers, their markets? Because they are ours. This is proof that they are ours,» Simonyan explained.
Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced its strong condemnation of the Ukrainian strike troops in Donetsk. The Ukrainian Armed Forces' strike on Donetsk will be one of the key topics at the upcoming UN Security Council meeting, which Russia has requested for Monday. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will take part in the meeting.
