The House of Journalists on Nevsky Prospekt canceled the presentation of the new book “Russian Trap” by Dmitry Travin, a professor of economics at the European University. The author himself spoke about this.
Earlier in December, a similar event planned at the Moscow campus of the Higher School of Economics on Myasnitskaya Street fell through. Representatives of the university did not comment on the decision.
According to Travin, this time “they called him [from the House of Journalists] and politely (with obvious sympathy) informed about the ban.”
Travin’s book, who has been the head of the Center for Modernization Research at the European University in St. Petersburg since its creation in 2008, came out at the end of last year. According to the abstract, in the monograph the economist analyzes the key “institutional traps” that led to Russia’s backwardness from European countries.
“A significant part of the book is devoted to polemics with those authors who consider our people to be slaves in their essence and, therefore, , they believe that Russia cannot develop normally. In this sense, my book is patriotic in nature. And there is definitely nothing anti-Russian in it,” the researcher himself commented on the failures of the sites.
Dmitry Travin’s previous monographs were also devoted to the problems of modernization of Russia, including “Why has Russia fallen behind?” On the day the invasion of Ukraine began, February 24, 2022, the economist wrote on his Facebook that “of course, both peoples will lose” in this war.
