MOSCOW, January 18 By the end of the 21st century, the climate in Russia may warm by 5-10 degrees, 2.5 times faster than the global average planet, the consequences for the country will be both negative and positive, said a researcher at the Institute of Ecology and Evolution. She emphasized that climate warming in Russia is occurring approximately 2.5 times faster than the global average. This is due to the fact that countries located in northern latitudes respond more strongly to climate change. According to her, warming will lead to new heat waves, an increase in the number of dangerous weather events, thawing of permafrost, forest fires and water shortages in the southern regions.
At the same time, the expert noted that climate change will also have positive consequences for Russia: heating costs will decrease, conditions for agriculture and forestry will improve, and opportunities will open up for the development of the North and navigation along the Northern Sea Route.
