“Whoever tries to cause damage to their homeland will die outside the country like the last dog” — Deputy Lugovoi on the law on property confiscation

The State Duma adopted in the first reading a bill on confiscation of property from those convicted of spreading military “fakes” for “selfish motives.” The co-author of the initiative, State Duma deputy Andrei Lugovoi, said that such people “will die outside the country like the last dogs.”

According to Lugovoi, if a person is convicted under articles about military “fakes” (Article 207.3 of the Criminal Code) or calls for activities directed against the security of the state (Article 280.4 of the Criminal Code), then he must not only “serve a little time in prison,” but also lose all the property that he has the right to use.

“Sitting there, having fled the country, is, of course, easy and pleasant. <…> But we will not allow this situation. Anyone who tries to cause damage to their homeland, country and citizens will lose everything and die there, outside our country, like the last dog,” explained the essence of the bill, a State Duma deputy from the LDPR, a recording of his speech was published by the telegram channel “Caution, News” .

The bill was submitted to the lower house of parliament on January 22. According to its provisions, money, valuables and other property “obtained as a result of committing crimes”, as well as “used or intended” for financing terrorism, extremism, a criminal community or activities against the security of Russia, can be confiscated.

Also Deputies proposed depriving those convicted under the article on military “fakes” of special, military or honorary titles, class ranks and state awards for crimes against the foundations of the constitutional order and “rehabilitation of Nazism.”

Earlier, at the request of Deputy Lugovoi, the Prosecutor General's Office recognized the American organization “Russian America for Democracy in Russia” as “undesirable”. In addition, in December, the parliamentarian reposted a post to his Telegram channel with the personal data of scientific journalist Asya Kazantseva and a call to “convey” to her that “betrayal of one’s country is the worst sin.” As a result, she left Russia, and the State Duma Ethics Commission found no violations in the actions of the deputy.
