The Government of Finland was presented with a petition for preserving the teaching of Russian

MOSCOW, January 27 To the Minister of Education of Finland Anna-Maja Henriksson A petition was submitted in support of teaching Russian in schools, public broadcaster Yle reported on Saturday.
“On Saturday, a petition was handed over to Minister of Education Anna-Maia Henriksson in favor of maintaining Finnish-Russian classes at the Puolala school in Turku and at the school in Eastern Finland,” the material says.

Three schools in Joensuu, Imatra and Lappeenranta, as well as a Finnish-Russian class in Turku, are now under threat of closure.

The petition was presented to the Minister of Education Henriksson by Ekaterina Tähkäpää, chairman of the association for supporting Finnish-Russian classes at Puolala School.
“The minister was not familiar with the situation in Turku, but promised to look into the issue,” Yle quotes her as saying.
The issue of possible closure of the class is being considered from the fall of 2023. Parents of students of Finnish-Russian classes at a Turku school on February 13 plan to organize a protest due to the closure, timed to coincide with a meeting of the education committee.
