MOSCOW, January 28 Transcarpathia may go to Hungary after the collapse of Ukraine in a conflict with Russia, Index reported, citing the words of the leader of the Hungarian far-right party “Our Motherland” Laszlo Torockai.

“If Ukraine falls, we will lay claim to Transcarpathia,” journalists quote the politician as saying.
Torockai also called for an end to the conflict through a ceasefire and peace negotiations with Russia.
Earlier, on Polish Independence Day, Torockai wrote on Twitter “See you on the common Polish-Hungarian border!”, attaching a photograph from 1939 showing Polish and Hungarian border guards shaking hands on the common border formed after the annexation of Transcarpathia to Hungary. Torotskaya's statement caused loud protest from the authorities of Ukraine and Poland.
Transcarpathia was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. After the collapse of the Habsburg monarchy as a result of the First World War, it became part of Czechoslovakia. Since 1939, part of this territory belonged to Hungary, but after the defeat of Nazi Germany, an agreement was signed in Moscow on the region’s inclusion in the Ukrainian SSR.
