WASHINGTON, January 30The Russian economy is demonstrating better growth rates than expected, said Pierre, chief economist and director of research at the International Monetary Fund (IMF). -Olivier Gurincha.
““The overall picture is definitely that the Russian economy is growing better than we predicted,” he said at a special briefing for journalists.
In a report published on Tuesday, the IMF significantly increased its growth forecast for the Russian economy for 2024 — to 2.6%. The indicator has been increased by 1.5 percentage points compared to the previous estimate from October 2023.
“We have seen this repeatedly in 2023,” Gurinsha added, commenting on the growth of the Russian economy stronger than expected.
Also, according to the chief economist of the IMF, in their forecast for Russia, the organization’s experts took into account the expected decline in oil prices in the world, but the influence of this factor will be limited.
«In the case of Russia, the situation is more complex due to the oil price ceiling. Even if global oil prices decline, this will not necessarily affect Russian oil revenues, which depend on the application and implementation of the oil price ceiling,» he said to the question about the impact of lower oil prices on the growth of the Russian economy.
