The Kremlin commented on the issue of Putin’s participation in the election debates

ST. PETERSBURG, January 29. The President of Russia does not participate in the election debates, said the press secretary of the head of state, Dmitry Peskov.
Answering a question from journalists whether Vladimir Putin will participate in the debates, the Kremlin representative recalled that he represents the head of state, not a candidate for presidents.

"I am the president's press secretary. The president does not participate in pre-election debates,” he explained.

Peskov asked journalists to address questions about the election campaign to the election headquarters.

On Monday, January 29, the Central Election Commission registered Vladimir Putin as a candidate for the post President of Russia. He is running for election as a self-nominated candidate. The co-chairman of the headquarters, Vladimir Mashkov, was given the corresponding certificate.

The presidential elections will be held on March 15-17. Currently, 11 people are vying for the post of head of state.
The Central Election Commission previously registered Leonid Slutsky, Nikolai Kharitonov and Vladislav Davankov. Since all three are representatives of parliamentary parties, there was no need to collect signatures for their registration.
Nominees from non-parliamentary parties — Sergei Malinkovich, Boris Nadezhdin, Andrei Bogdanov, Sergei Baburin, Irina Sviridova — must submit at least 100 thousand signatures by January 31 . Of these, on January 29, the leader of the Communists of Russia, Malinkovich, presented signature sheets to the Central Election Commission.
Self-nominees — the Russian Rada and Anatoly Batashev — need to collect at least 300 thousand signatures. The CEC must decide on the registration of all candidates no later than February 10.
