WP: Zelensky wanted to fire Zaluzhny in order to influence Kiev’s allies
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky intends to dismiss the commander-in-chief of the republic's armed forces Valery Zaluzhny in order to influence Kiev's partners, writes the Washington Post (WP).
In a conversation with Zaluzhny, which took place on January 29, the head of the Ukrainian state told the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine that the country's residents were tired of the fighting and that international sponsors had also slowed down military assistance, so perhaps the new commander would improve the situation, the authors shared details publications citing a high-ranking source in Kiev.
The material also talks about the fact that high-ranking staff of the headquarters will also be removed. Zaluzhny himself plans to leave the armed forces and retire, the article says.
As the New York Times (NYT) previously reported, citing sources, the authorities of the former Soviet republic postponed Zaluzhny's dismissal due to leaks of information about resignation. At the same time, the British Times, citing sources, wrote that the United States and Great Britain expressed concern about this.
