Convicted in the “Left Resistance” case, Polyudova was transferred to a punishment cell; her lawyer said the activist was beaten for criticizing Putin

The creator of the “Left Resistance” Daria Polyudova, who is in IK-4 in Kabardino-Balkaria, was transferred from the cell SUS in the punishment cell, citing repairs. The prisoner’s lawyer reported this in a conversation with Kavkaz.Realii.

“Firstly, the room there is more cramped, there are fewer amenities, the beds are of a different format. The most important thing is that the window there is always open, in frosty conditions the room is very cold,” added Polyudova’s lawyer.

The lawyer also said that Polyudova gave her mother a letter from the colony — in which the activist spoke about the beating by her cellmate. According to the creator of Left Resistance, a neighbor beat her for criticizing Vladimir Putin.

“Daria explained that the one who hit her has ideological hatred — she hates her for her dislike of Putin. Daria did not immediately write a complaint, from now on I convinced her to contact the administration of the institution to record traces of bodily injuries,” the prisoner’s lawyer clarified in an interview with the publication.

In August, Polyudova was already placed in a punishment cell at IK-4 in Kabardino-Balkaria — then the reason for her placement in a punishment cell was a blade found in her belongings. The activist herself said that unknown people planted a blade on her shortly after being transferred to a correctional facility.

The criminal prosecution of Polyudova began back in 2014, when the activist was arrested in the case of calls for extremism and violation of the territorial integrity of Russia. Later, in connection with this case, she was sentenced to two years in a penal colony. In 2017, she was released from prison, and then created the Left Resistance movement, which positioned itself as “standing out against the capitalist oppressors for all the oppressed, for the power of the working people.”

In January 2020, Polyudova was sent to a pre-trial detention center — a preventive measure was chosen as part of a case that was opened because of postabout the Chechen field commander Shamil Basayev andvideoabout the shooting at Lubyanka. In 2021, in this case, the activist was sentenced to six years in a general regime colony. At the end of 2022, the punishment was increased to nine years in prison: Polyudova was also found guilty of creation of an “extremist community” — «Left Resistance» movements — and justification of terrorism from -for posts in the group of the same name. In April 2023, this decision was confirmed by the appellate court.
