Volzhsky resident fined for LGBT* symbols on social networks

VOLGOGRAD, February 1 A resident of the city of Volzhsky, Volgograd region, was fined one thousand rubles for an LGBT* flag on his social networks, this is one of the first court decisions in Russia under an administrative article on public display of prohibited symbols related to the LGBT* movement, which was recognized as an extremist organization in November.
According to the joint press service of the courts of general jurisdiction of the region, a resident of Volzhsky posted an LGBT* flag on his page on a social network and “kept it for the purpose of mass distribution,” thereby committing an administrative offense — under Part 1 of Art. 20.3 Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation (propaganda or public display of prohibited symbols)

«For committing this offense, by a decision of the Volga City Court, Artyom P. was sentenced to administrative punishment punishment in the form of an administrative fine in the amount of 1,000 rubles,” the message says.

It is noted that during the meeting the man explained that he placed the flag “out of stupidity.”
In November 2023, the Supreme Court, at the request of the Russian Ministry of Justice, recognized the “international public movement of LGBT*” as an extremist organization and banned its activities on the territory of Russia.
