Politico: Orban's decision on Ukraine was influenced by Meloni and Macron
Politico, citing sources, claims that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban agreed that the European Union would send 50 billion euros in aid to Ukraine, after persuasion with by the head of the Italian government Giorgi Meloni and French President Emmanuel Macron.
The main diplomatic work, according to the publication, was done over several months by Meloni, who spoke with Orban on the phone and held a meeting with him at the Amigo Hotel in Brussels » and chatted the morning before the summit.
Macron invited Orban to lunch at the Elysee Palace in January 2024.
Politicians allegedly tried to «charm» the Hungarian prime minister, but let him know that his position could lead to measures against the Hungarian economy and the deprivation of its voting rights under the Treaty of European Union.
