The Foreign Ministry explained the new procedure for the movement of British diplomats in Russia

MOSCOW, February 2 The notification procedure for movement introduced last year employees of British diplomatic missions in Russia applies to all accredited personnel of the embassy in Moscow and the consulate general in Yekaterinburg, except for the ambassador, minister-counselor, head of the consular department and consul general, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported.
«On July 20, 2023, the British side was informed of the introduction of a notification procedure for the movement of employees of British diplomatic missions across the territory of our country from September 1, 2023,» the ministry recalled.
“As noted, the new rules apply to all accredited personnel of the British Embassy in Moscow and the Consulate General in Yekaterinburg with the exception of the ambassador, minister-counselor, head of the consular department and consul general,” the department explained.
Last week, the new British Ambassador to Russia, Nigel Casey, visited St. Petersburg.

The Foreign Ministry noted in this regard that “the British side complies with the prescribed requirements.” “The diplomats who accompanied the ambassador on the trip notified the Russian side about this in accordance with the established procedure,” the Russian Foreign Ministry reported.

The notification procedure for the movement of diplomats from the UK was introduced in response to hostile actions by London, including those interfering with the normal work of Russian institutions in the UK.
Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry stated that “within the relevant restrictions, it is envisaged, in particular, the need for accredited personnel of the British Embassy in Moscow (with the exception of the ambassador, minister-counselor and head of the consular department) and the consulate general to send at least five working days in advance to Yekaterinburg (except for the Consul General) notifications about travel outside the 120-kilometer free movement zone.»
«Such a document must contain information about the timing, purpose, type of trip, planned business contacts, accompanying persons, mode of transport, places to visit and accommodation, as well as the route of the trip,» the department added.
