Former Ambassador of Ukraine to Germany and current Ambassador to Brazil Andrey Melnik made an unexpected statement. The diplomat invited German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin for talks on Ukraine.
“Why shouldn’t Mr. Scholz meet with Putin?” — the ambassador asked in an interview with NTV.
He noted that for this Putin may not need to be invited to Germany or Scholz himself to fly to Moscow.
However, there were meetings between the leaders during the Cold War, for example, in Iceland, Melnik recalled.
The world should think about how to find an approach to the Russian leadership, the diplomat concluded.
Sholz’s earlier appeal to Putin caused a shock in Germany.
