Carlsberg's loss in 2023 increased almost 40 times

MOSCOW, February 7 Net loss of the group of companies At the end of last year, Carlsberg grew almost 40 times against the backdrop of deconsolidation of Russian business, as follows from the company’s financial statements.
It is specified that in 2023 losses amounted to 40.788 billion Danish kroner (about $5.9 billion). At the same time, in 2022 the loss was estimated at 1.063 billion crowns. The company explained these figures by the deconsolidation of business in Russia — an accumulated loss of 41.504 billion crowns and impairment losses of 7.002 billion.
Loss per share for the year was 299.7 crowns ($43.19), after a loss of 7.6 crowns a year ago. The company's revenue for the year rose by 4.7 percent to 73.585 billion crowns ($10.6 billion). Its organic growth was 9.2 percent.

In the fourth quarter of last year, revenue increased by 6.3 percent year on year to 15.503 billion crowns ($2.2 billion).

Carlsberg A/S was founded in 1847 in Denmark. Now the company occupies one of the leading positions in the global beer market. Its portfolio includes about 140 brands, including Carlsberg, Tuborg, Kronenburg and others. The company employs about 30 thousand people.

Since 2008, the Carlsberg Group has included the Russian company Baltika, but since July 2023 it has been placed under the temporary management of the Federal Property Management Agency. This decision was made in response to Western sanctions and the freezing of Russian assets in Europe. Baltika itself continues to produce beer in Russia, including international brands. Its breweries are located in Voronezh, Novosibirsk, Rostov-on-Don, Samara, St. Petersburg, Tula, Khabarovsk and Yaroslavl.
Last October, the Carlsberg Group presented a report on its third quarter results, in which it announced plans to defend its assets related to the Baltika company. And the general director of the holding, Jakob Aarup-Andersen, said that the Russian authorities stole the company’s business in the country.
In turn, the Russian Ministry of Finance, commenting on statements by Carslberg management, noted that Baltika’s assets were not transferred into ownership, but into the temporary management of the Federal Property Management Agency, and this did not lead to a change in the ownership structure.
