MOSCOW, February 7 The Siberian Glass plant in the Novosibirsk region (an asset of RATM holding) saved almost 58 thousand tons of mineral resources in 2023 using glass waste, reported the the company's press service.

This volume is equivalent to 890 railway cars: replacing natural raw materials with glass waste is a key area of implementation of the company's environmental agenda,» the president's press service quotes» RATM Holding» by Eduard Taran.
According to him, the plant’s need for recyclable materials in 2024 is already about 200 thousand tons, that is, four times more than in 2023.
As the company notes, the use of glass waste reduces production costs, glass can be melted endlessly, and it takes more than a thousand years to decompose in landfills.
«Currently, when producing brown containers, 50% of cullet is used as part of the raw material mixture, and up to 35% for colorless containers. We intend to double the total figure in 2024,» said Taran.
Previously, Sibsteklo launched production of Russia's first ultra-light glass bottle, which should encourage businesses to switch from plastic to a more environmentally friendly type of container.
