The subsidiary NEV brand of the Chinese state-owned automaker BAIC continues to expand its model line in the hope of catching up with the market leaders: a luxurious Mountain Edition of the flagship liftback has been announced Arcfox αS with two-tone exterior paint and a luxurious interior.
BAIC launched the Arcfox brand in 2017, but for a long time could not promote it, despite the rapid growth of the NEV segment of the Chinese car market observed in recent years (the abbreviation NEV stands for New Energy Vehicle, it combines electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids and hydrogen cars). Just last year, thanks to new products and advertising, the Arcfox brand took off and sold 30,016 cars, which is 138% more than sales in 2022, but by the standards of the Chinese market this is still a rather modest result. For comparison, let’s say that the NEV brand Aion, launched in 2018 by the GAC concern, sold 480,003 vehicles (+77%) last year.
Last December, the mid-size electric crossover αT5 was added to the Arcfox model line, and today a luxury version of the flagship electric liftback Arcfox αS was announced, it was called Mountain Edition (Mountain in English means “mountain”).

The Arcfox αS liftback has been produced since 2021 and has since acquired a large number of modifications; the range includes single-engine front-wheel drive versions (218 or 238 hp) and dual-engine all-wheel drive (435 or 643 hp). Power 643 hp has a sports version of αS HI, it can reach the first “hundred” in 3.5 seconds, the maximum speed is limited to 200 km/h.

The capacity of the Arcfox αS battery, depending on the modification, varies from 65.6 to 93.6 kWh, the range on one charge is from 525 to 735 km according to the CLTC cycle. The overall length of the liftback is 4930 mm, width is 1940 mm, height is 1599 mm, wheelbase is 2915 mm. The front suspension is McPherson type, the rear is independent multi-link, standard wheels are 19- or 20-inch. Trunk volume — 560 l, with the second row seats folded — 1300 l.

The luxury version of the Mountain Edition has two separate rear seats, probably , will not fold, a fixed partition is visible behind them, and between them there is a high box-armrest, on the edge of which there is a touch screen, various seat settings, microclimate and entertainment functions are built into it. The luxury version features improved cabin sound insulation, finishing with expensive and environmentally friendly materials, and a fine air filter with antibacterial effect. Regular Arcfox αS now costs in China from 189,800 yuan (2.4 million rubles in translation at the current exchange rate), the sports version HI — from 329,800 yuan (4.15 million rubles). The Arcfox brand is not officially represented in Russia at the moment, but its models are available from gray dealers.
