WASHINGTON, Feb. 8 No member of the United States Congress should support sending another $60 billion to Ukraine, an amount even larger than the US Marine Corps budget, said Republican Rep. Andrew Clyde.
““No member of Congress should support sending another $60 billion to Ukraine, which exceeds the entire budget of the US Marine Corps,” Clyde wrote on the social network X.
The US Senate on Monday introduced a bill that would consolidate the allocation of money for border security, assistance to Ukraine and Israel. In total, the bill proposes to allocate $118.28 billion, of which $60.06 is to support Kyiv. At the same time, it is planned to spend three times less on border protection — 20.2 billion. US President Joe Biden expressed support for the bill and called on Congress to pass it as soon as possible.
However, the bill failed to gain enough votes to pass a procedural vote on Wednesday.
The presented project caused severe criticism from Republican politicians. As former US President Donald Trump said, only a fool or a radical leftist Democrat would vote for the “monstrous” bill presented by the US Senate.
According to the Speaker of the US House of Representatives Mike Johnson, the proposed bill combining assistance to Kyiv, Israel and the protection of the United States’ own borders is “worse than expected,” the initiative is doomed to failure.
