NEW YORK, February 8, Alan Bulkaty. Serious investigation sabotage of the Nord Stream pipelines has not yet been carried out and this is unacceptable, Budapest calls on national and international authorities to take the issue seriously, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó said in an interview, commenting on Sweden’s decision to stop the investigation.
Swedish Prosecutor Mats Ljungqvist on Wednesday announced the termination of the investigation into the case of explosions on the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 pipelines, since it does not fall under the jurisdiction of the country. He said that Germany would continue the investigation.
«Hundreds of days have passed and there has still been no serious investigation. No details have yet been announced. I think this is unacceptable,» Szijjarto said.
«» This was a terrorist attack on strategic infrastructure in Europe. An attack on our secure energy supplies, which is a strategic and European security issue,» he added.
According to him, the fact that no investigation was carried out is very irresponsible and , from Budapest's point of view, «is truly unacceptable.»
«We therefore call on the authorities, be they national or international, to take this seriously,» he stressed.
Explosions at two Russian export gas pipelines to Europe — Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 — occurred on September 26, 2022. Germany, Denmark and Sweden have not ruled out targeted sabotage. The Nord Stream operator Nord Stream AG reported that the damage to gas pipelines is unprecedented and the time frame for repairs is impossible to estimate. The Prosecutor General's Office of Russia initiated a case regarding an act of international terrorism.
