TOKYO, February 8 Smoke recorded at the Tsuruga nuclear power plant in the morning » in Japan was caused by smoke and sparks in the ventilation of the first power unit, NHK TV channel reported.
It was previously reported that smoke appeared in the area of the turbine compartment at the first power unit. There were no casualties.
In the morning, the fire alarm went off at the power unit; upon inspection, it turned out that smoke was coming out of the ventilation in the turbine compartment and sparks were visible. The ventilation system serves to remove air from the compartment to the outside. After the station employee unplugged it, the fire stopped.
According to measurements at monitoring points, background radiation is normal.
At the first power unit of the Tsuruga NPP, work has been underway to dismantle the reactor since 2017.
