MOSCOW, February 8 The German gas company VNG has signed a contract with the Algerian state-owned Sonatrach for Germany's first gas supplies via a pipeline from Algeria, Bloomberg reported, citing the head of VNG Ulf Heitmuller.
“The contract is small, and we plan to expand it,” the agency quotes Heitmuller. As Bloomberg adds, these will be the first pipeline gas supplies to Germany from Algeria.
The agency recalled, citing sources, that the agreement between VNG and Sonatrach itself came into force in January of this year. But other details, including the timing of the start of deliveries themselves and volumes, were not specified, it indicated.
The Algerian state oil and gas company Sonatrach is engaged in the production, processing, transportation and sale of hydrocarbons. The largest in all of Africa in this field. VNG operates in the gas and gas infrastructure sector and has 20 subsidiaries in Germany and Europe. The headquarters is located in Leipzig.
In December 2022, the companies also agreed to cooperate in the energy field with the aim of creating a German-Algerian value chain for hydrogen.
