BRUSSELS, 9 Feb. The Russian Permanent Mission to the EU called » «witch hunt» is another anti-Russian resolution of the European Parliament, which accuses Moscow of interfering in the democratic processes of the European Union.
On Thursday, the European Parliament approved a resolution that warns European officials and politicians against cooperation with the Russian authorities. The document accuses Russia of “trying to sow discord between European citizens,” using MEPs as “agents of influence,” and financing European political parties to use them for propaganda purposes. They decided to call the new charges Russiagate, by analogy with previous scandals with foreign influence on European deputies.
«Russiagate is a “witch hunt”, a pre-planned campaign. The goal is to clean up the political landscape on the eve of the elections to the European Parliament. To get rid of not only those who opposes the pro-Ukrainian policy and anti-Russian course, but also calls to simply stop, analyze the situation, and maybe even admit the mistakes made,” says the commentary of the Russian diplomatic mission.
The permanent mission points out that in conditions “when the European voter has been cut off from Russian and any other alternative sources of information, one can compose anything.” “A whole list of assumptions about the so-called “Russian trace” has been presented, but, as is usual in Brussels, not a single fact or evidence, only paranoia,” the permanent mission notes in its commentary.
