MOSCOW, February 9 Russia plays a stabilizing role in the world market for a whole range of agricultural products and is a reliable partner, said Russian Minister of Agriculture Dmitry Patrushev at the Day of Agriculture at the Russia exhibition .
“Russian products are a large and in many ways stabilizing supplier on the world market for a whole range of agricultural products,” the minister said. He recalled that the country ranks second in the world in terms of external supplies of grains and legumes, is the number one exporter of wheat and fish, is in second place in trade in sunflower and rapeseed oil, and in third place in supplies of barley.
The minister emphasized that the volume of agricultural production in the country has increased by 87% since 2000, the volume of grain and meat production has doubled, and fish catch has increased by 60%. “This made it possible to ensure food self-sufficiency in Russia and, think about this figure, to increase our exports by 30 times,” Patrushev emphasized.
He recalled that in 2020, export revenue from the agricultural sector was $1.4 billion, and in 2023 it exceeded $45 billion. “If two decades ago our products were purchased mainly by the CIS countries, now we are sending significant volumes to Africa, South America, and Southeast Asia,” the minister said. “Despite external pressure, we consistently support the food security of a number of countries, and this remains one of our main priorities,” he added.
He also drew attention to the growing volume of state support: in 2000, the industry received only 18 billion rubles, in 2018 the level of this support already amounted to 266 billion rubles, and in 2024 “we are allocated a total of 558 billion rubles.” In general, since the beginning of the implementation of the basic state program — agricultural development — in 2013, more than 3.5 trillion rubles have been allocated to the industry.
And one of the youngest is the state program for the integrated development of rural areas: it started in 2022 and is associated with the effective introduction of agricultural land into circulation and the development of land reclamation; 100 billion rubles have already been allocated for its activities. Funds are allocated, among other things, to projects to increase soil fertility and protect them from disposal, to update the reclamation fund; Thus, in two years, about 1 million hectares of agricultural land were put into circulation.
All this has a positive effect on both product output and the financial results of the industry: for example, the share of profitable enterprises in 2000 was 47%, and today there are already 86% — that is, the figures have doubled, the minister concluded.
