The Main Military Directorate of the Investigative Committee suspended the investigation of the criminal case into the death of the cruiser «Moskva». As the Agency noted, notification of this was received by mail from Dmitry Shkrebets, the father of a conscript who died during the destruction of the cruiser Moskva.
The decision was made on December 20, but the notification only came to Shkrebets in February. Military investigators referred to the fact that “the location [of the suspects in the case] has not been established” (clause 2 of part 1 of Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code).
Dmitry Shkrabets clarified to the Agency that he does not intend to appeal the military decision in court investigators, since the suspects are not in Russia. At the same time, in his opinion, the investigation did not take into account those who “are in Russia” and “through their actions, and others through inaction and incompetence, created the conditions for what happened to the cruiser.”

The flagship Russian missile cruiser Moskva sank on April 14, 2022 in the Black Sea near Zmeiny Island. The Russian Ministry of Defense claimed that a fire occurred on the cruiser, which led to the detonation of a warhead. Ukrainian authorities reported that the cruiser was attacked by two Neptune anti-ship missiles.
The Ministry of Defense initially reported one dead sailor and 27 missing. The court subsequently declared dead 17 sailors who were on the cruiser, whose crew exceeded 400 people. Mediazona and the BBC Russian Service have used open sources to establish the names of 22 Moskva crew members who died when the cruiser sank.
