Satellite images taken from May 2023 to February 10, 2024 showed the construction of a train line in the occupied Donetsk region, from the railway station in Yelenovka to Volnovakha. The OSINT channel of the DeepState project drew attention to this.
As noted by investigators, construction of a continuous structure, which already includes about 2,100 freight cars, began in July last year. The length of the line can be estimated at 30 kilometers.
The Institute for the Study of War (ISW), citing a source, wrote that the Russian military intends to use the structure as a line of defense. “This can well be considered as a separate line of defense, because it is extremely difficult to damage, move or explode a 30-kilometer mass of metal, and the movement of equipment due to such an obstacle is impossible without breaking through the corridor,” added DeepState.
ISW also noted that the railway tracks on which the “train” is located are located approximately six kilometers from the proposed front line.
