YEKATERINBURG, February 14 The Central Bank of the Russian Federation is discussing with banks the concept of a unified payment QR code, but it is too early to talk about its features, the director said Department of the national payment system of the Central Bank Alla Bakina on the sidelines of the Ural forum «Cybersecurity in Finance».
““The banks and I are now discussing the concept of a unified QR code and technological solutions, the dialogue is not finished yet, so it is premature to talk about internal features and which path we are moving,” she said.
She noted that the transition will not mean the abolition or ban of existing tools; the versatility of the QR code is to preserve banking business models and loyalty programs.
Earlier in November 2023, VTB Deputy Chairman Georgy Gorshkov proposed creating a single payment QR code in Russia, with which you can pay contactlessly for goods and services, without worrying about what to use: card, code , person or other payment method.
