STANITSA LUGANSKAYA, February 16< /strong> A number of events are being carried out in the Lugansk People's Republic to combat floods caused by Kiev's destruction of forests in the Donbass, the administration of the head of the LPR reported.
At the end of January 2024, the head of the LPR, Leonid Pasechnik, introduced a state of emergency in a number of settlements of the republic due to the rise of melt and groundwater, which resulted in flooding of houses of local residents in the Stanichno-Lugansk district and a number of villages in the Severodonetsk agglomeration. According to documents and criminal cases found in the liberated territories of the LPR, Kyiv deliberately destroyed forests in the Donbass, which led to a rise in groundwater. Coniferous forests in this area served as a natural drainage system. At the moment, the LPR authorities are taking measures to prevent further rise of waters.
“»Currently, work is underway in the village of Beloye in the Lutuginsky district. Work has been done to prevent water spills. The equipment is working,» the administration reported.
In turn, the head of the Stanichno-Lugansk district, Albert Zinchenko, told how in their area, which was the first to suffer from floods, their consequences were eliminated. “There was a continuous stream of water here. The street turned into a stream of water. Somewhere around 60 courtyards and 13 streets — this is where there was practically no way to pass. Now this is no longer a disaster, these are already the remnants of what was,” he said Zinchenko, demonstrating the consequences of floods.
He said that with the assistance of the head of the republic, who personally came to the flooded area, equipment was allocated and large-scale work was carried out for about 13 days on the construction of embankments and drainage systems, which helped stop the flow of water flowing into several settlements of the Stanichno-Lugansk region.
«We made “horseshoes” (embankments in the form of horseshoes — ed.) and practically cut off the flow of water from all the swamps that were filled with water. First, we closed the entrance to the settlement with this horseshoe. It was poured and rolled with heavy equipment» , — said Zinchenko.
According to Zinchenko, this problem arose after the destruction of coniferous forests in this area. “Our grandfathers and great-grandfathers planted forests here. And somewhere in the 60s, when the forest rose, in principle, the very issue of floods, it simply fell, it was gone. And now, when the forest is gone again… He and was burning, it was actually shaved by the Ukrainian military. But until we grow a new forest, this problem will exist,» the agency's interlocutor shared.
