MOSCOW, February 17 Based on the results of last year, Russia took third place in terms of gas supplies to Turkey, overtaking Kazakhstan : Exports exceeded $348 million, calculated based on public data.
Last year, Türkiye purchased gas from 21 countries. Moreover, the top five suppliers of this fuel to Istanbul — Algeria, the USA, Russia, Kazakhstan and Nigeria — accounted for 99.78% of the total imports of $2.21 billion.
At the same time, in 2023 compared to 2022, gas purchases by Turkey in monetary terms decreased by 9%, to 2. 21 billion dollars, and in physical volumes, on the contrary, almost doubled — to 3.9 million tons.
For the second year in a row, Algeria and the United States remain the main gas exporters to Turkey, supplying 1.8 million tons worth $1 billion and 1.1 million tons worth $628 million, respectively. At the end of last year, Russia displaced Kazakhstan from third place, increasing supplies in physical terms threefold — to 629 thousand tons, and in monetary terms — 2.4 times, to more than $348 million.
Kazakhstan, which took fourth place, exported almost 265 thousand tons of raw materials worth 155 million dollars to Turkey, and Nigeria, which rose to fifth place over the year from sixth place, exported 105.4 thousand tons worth almost 60 million dollars.
In addition, during the year, France, Romania, Tunisia, Iraq and Denmark stopped their gas supplies to Turkey, and South Korea, Greece, Iran, the UAE and Hong Kong started.
