A goal and two assists from Panarin brought the Rangers a brilliant victory in the derby

MOSCOW, February 19 New York Rangers hockey players beat the New York Islanders in a regular season match of the National Hockey League (NHL).
The meeting took place outdoors at MetLife Stadium, where the National Football League (NFL) clubs New York Giants and New York Jets play their home games. The arena seats 82,500 spectators; 79,600 people attended the game between the Islanders and Rangers. The match ended with a strong-willed victory for the Rangers in overtime with a score of 6:5 (1:3, 2:1, 2:1, 1:0). For the Blueshirts, Erik Gustafsson (2nd minute), Vincent Trocheck (26, 39), Chris Kreider (56) and Mika Zibanejad (59) scored goals in regulation time. The author of the decisive goal in overtime was Russian striker Artemy Panarin (61). The Islanders had goals from Brock Nelson (5), Bo Horvat (8), Mathew Barzal (8), Anders Lee (22) and Russian defenseman Alexander Romanov (42).

Artemi Panarin's goal brings his total number of goals scored in the 2023-24 season to 32 and repeated his personal sniper record in the NHL. The Russian also scored two assists and was recognized as the second star of the meeting. Rangers goalie Igor Shesterkin stopped 36 of 41 shots. Islanders goalie Ilya Sorokin made 32 saves on 38 shots.

The Islanders suffered their third defeat in the championship in a row. Patrick Roy's men are tenth in the Eastern Conference standings with 58 points after 54 games. The Rangers extended their winning streak to seven games. Peter Laviolette's team is second in the East with 75 points.
