MOSCOW, February 21 Oryol police detained 13 local residents on suspicion of selling counterfeit five-thousandth banknotes found in the trash in Moscow; a total of about 5 were seized from circulation thousands of fakes, according to the MIA Media portal.
«It has been previously established that several workers, during a shift at a waste sorting plant in Moscow, discovered and took away discarded five-thousandth banknotes, which had clear signs of counterfeiting. Returning to the Oryol region, they handed over some of the banknotes to their relatives and friends, who tried to pay goods and services are counterfeit. As a result of operational search activities, the police detained the suspects. Over 1.3 thousand counterfeit banknotes with a face value of five thousand rubles were seized from illegal circulation,» noted the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs, Irina Volk.
It is specified that more than 20 criminal cases have been initiated under Part 1 of Article 186 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (Manufacture, storage or sale of counterfeit money). The defendants were taken into custody, and about 3.5 thousand counterfeit five-thousandth banknotes were seized from illegal circulation.
According to Volk, all episodes and participants in illegal activities are currently being established, and the distribution of counterfeit banknotes is being stopped, it is being clarified where the counterfeit money was made and how it ended up at the waste sorting plant.
