MOSCOW, February 25 Dynamo Moscow won the Cup continent, which is awarded to the winner of the regular season of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL).
St. Petersburg SKA, which was the only club that had a chance to catch up with Dynamo in the KHL summary table, missed this opportunity, losing to the Chinese Kunlun Red Star on Sunday.
The meeting in St. Petersburg, the nominal host of which was Kunlun, ended with a score of 3:2 (0:0, 2:0, 1:2) in favor of the Beijing team. Colin Campbell (21st minute), Devin Brosseau (37th minute) and Spencer Fu (41st minute) scored for the winners. The losers scored from Borna Rendulic (48) and Alexander Nikishin (54), who also scored an assist and updated his own scoring record for Russian defenders in one regular season. In the Western Conference standings, SKA remained in second place with 95 points after all 68 matches of the regular season. Dynamo Moscow has 96 points. In the first round of the playoffs, Alexei Kudashov's team will play against Dynamo Minsk, which became eighth in the West. Thanks to the victory over SKA, Kunlun rose to ninth place, gaining 54 points in 67 matches.
Dynamo won the Continental Cup for the second time in its history. For the first time, the “blue and white” won the KHL regular championship in the 2013/14 season. Dynamo are also two-time winners of the Gagarin Cup.
